The Twelve Days of Christmas Regina Scott 9780821760734 Books Reviews
Sweet wholesome story with a bit of wit. I enjoyed the interactions of the lead characters, they were well balanced out with the supporting characters as well. The is a lesson in give and take, tolerance and justice without malice. I thoroughly enjoyed the book
I admit that Genevieve can be frustratingly annoying throughout this book, but the concept of the story is adorable. It was enjoyable reading the inventive ways in which our hero produces his gifts.
All little drown out in places. Allan tried so hard. Genevieve was determined to be hard to please. They finally found the problem. Good clean romance. Enjoy, Mrs Del Rae M.
For the most part, I don't regret reading this story. For some reason, it seemed like a lot happened that was not really plausible and some of the timeline just didn't work itself out well in my timeline that I was putting together as I read it. I like the H more than the h. She was okay but seemed a little inconsistent. I just think it could have been a little better written and made more believable.
The Marvelous Munroes series is addictive. Each story has engaging characters and it's own wonderfully romantic and humorous plot. Thank you, Ms. Scott, for another very entertaining evening. I loved this story.
Regina Scott gifted with imagination, has brought us another excellent read. Filled with surprises, her story about courageous Gen and her efforts to provide her mother and sister one last good Christmas is a romp of great dialog, period accuracy, mystery and pure romance. Looking forward to Book two coming in Jan. 2017.
*****Caution--Spoilers Ahead*****
It was hard to really like this story since the plot was based on something so silly as the H betting he could give the h the gifts of the Christmas song without spending a penny. And the way he went about it seemed really far fetched since so many of the successful "giving" of the "gifts" were based on happenstance such as having eight females of the h's household assisting in milking dairy cows when a small creek pond floods and runs the cows out of their usual pasture. Since the h was one of the people who had to learn to milk the cows, twice a day until the pasture dried out, and the h's front yard smelled of cow poo for several days, they weren't much of a gift.
At the end of the story I still had no idea of the appearance of the h. She had mostly described the H but there was very little about her own appearance except the color of her hair, that she was an exceptional beauty, and she was at least a head taller than the H's very short mother who came up to her shoulder at 50" tall. She seemed like a ghost narrating a story until the epilogue; then she did a 180 degree turn and became the romantic female missing in the previous 94% of the book.
Often the h seemed to get infuriated at the H for very little reason. I have read lots of Regency period romances and I am familiar with the mores of the time, so I can understand why she felt his marriage proposal was rude--but she had been in love with him since she was a child, so I thought her reaction would have been a little warmer. She wasn't even flattered. Her only excuse seemed to be that she thought he was acting like the men she had met in London who did not respect women. Surely she knew him better than that? She didn't even try to talk to him or find the reasons for his action, she just got mad and decided to take his bet to show him how independent she could be. What? I thought she was supposed to be so intelligent, obviously not.
For me, the story just wasn't very entertaining. There was only a trifle of romantic tension and it was only expressed in the H and h losing their tempers with each other. It would have been more romantic if she had broken down and finally confessed the mess the family was in after the father died and the H could have acted heroically and rescued them. And for being nearly 30 years old the H seemed very immature; more like a youth than a well off mature man. Usually I really appreciate "clean" romances, but this one was almost sterile. There was one passionate kiss but they both got angry with each other immediately so it wasn't very romantic.
I was planning on getting the next book in the series, but I think I'll pass.
